FEDERICO STEFANOVICH

The raw and simplistic character of Óseo Mobile, in addition to its apparent state of balance, seeks to relate with the user through their sensibility and emotions. In order to accomplish the balance of the composition, multiple parameters such as volume, mass and density, as well as the distance between the elements, are calculated and projected simultaneously from the shaping of every piece of the system.

Origin: All the wooden pieces are handcrafted with traditional woodworking techniques by a small workshop of a master cabinetmaker in Iztapalapa, Mexico who has been working with wood carving for 50 years.

CANDELERA 04

FEDERICO STEFANOVICH

Candelera is a collection of large sculptural lighting pieces that combine form and function. It achieves compositional balance through simultaneous calculations of volume, mass, density, and element spacing. Simple geometric processes transform 2D surfaces into complex, double-curved structures, concealing light sources. The shapes in "Candelera 04" are reminiscent of organic elements having an outline with both convex and concave curves.

Origin: The piece is produced in a family workshop in Cuautitlán that employs 15 people and focuses on metalwork at various scales. They have recently become involved in the production of collectible design objects and furniture within their niche.

As the Candelera collection, this piece is designed with the aid of parametric software to create a cut pattern around the screen that adds a unique texture. Once cut, the sheet metal is then rolled and welded together to form a conelike shape. Lastly, the weld is carefully ground and polished creating a seamless surface around the screen. When illuminated, the concave shape casts a soft glow that accentuates the screen’s texture.

Simple geometric processes transform 2D surfaces into complex, double-curved structures, concealing light sources. The volumes that form “Candelera 03” are related in an abstract way to river stones. Organic and natural elements that, like the piece, recall history, change and the passage of time.
