FLUID RESIDUUM

STUDIO EIDOLA

“Fluid Residuum” traces the fleeting marks of rainfall upon soil, where each drop meeting the ground sets off a sequence of small-scale geomorphological events: erosion, displacement, and sedimentary drift.

Each fragment’s surface, shaped by the flow of water, becomes an index of the earth’s porosity and its capacity to record ephemeral events. By kiln-firing these fragile imprints and joining them with recycled tinware, what once seemed like insignificant residue becomes a framework for structural experimentation, drawing from the technique of ancient stone joints, where molten metal was poured into carved channels to bind separate elements into a unified whole.

Created in collaboration with a gravel quarry in Graubünden, Switzerland, the work explores how industrial by-products, usually discarded as landfill, can be reimagined and given another life. Fluid Residuum is a tribute to the overlooked, encouraging us to reconsider how we define value.

ABOUT

Studio Eidola

Established in Zürich in 2020 by Denizay Apusoglu and Jonas Kissling, Studio Eidola operates as an interdisciplinary research and design studio. Grounded in principles of exploration and critical reflection, the studio recontextualizes materials by exploring their histories, geologies, and potentials often overlooked.

Their work begins with open-ended inquiries into raw materials‘ life cycles and properties, taking cues from geomorphic influences and long-standing artisanal traditions. The studio’s approach involves site-specific material research and local industry ties, synthesizing the close relationship between material culture and industrial evolution, for fresh interpretations.
